I can't find much about this material except that it comes from
Amboy Crater, which is a basaltic which can fairly easily be hiked to the top of. Apparently agate is scarce there, but chalcedony
roses are fairly common.
I inherited several slabs
and a square block of this jasp-agate years ago when the father of one of my friends passed on. Years earlier his father
had gotten into lapidary for a few years and then moved on to other pursuits. There was a small box of assorted cutting rough
leftover from the 60s in the garage, and I was fortunate to have it given to me by the family.
