Ametrine Cabochons
A combination of amethyst and citrine, ametrine is almost always produced by man. Early
amethyst miners in Brazil noticed that the broken crytals on the rocks they were using for campfires were turning a rich golden
color. With experimentation over the years, the Brazilians have turned heat-treating amethyst into a fine art, also
producing green colored stones. Ametrine is made by burying the amethyst in sand inside of a metal drum and heating
up the outside. The sand causes the heat to travel slowly through the material, producing the wonderful bi-color gold
and purple stones that are so popular today.
