Petrified Algae Cabochons
That's right! Petrified pond scum! I first encountered this material back in the 80s when an
older gentleman brought some to me at an art fair I was working and offered to sell me some. He had a beautiful arrowhead-shaped
cab with him at the time and I was suitably impressed. He told me that it came from the area around Ten Sleep, Wyoming
and he had collected it back in the 50s. Since then, I've encountered it a few more times, but it certainly isn't very
common. The tan and brown patterns are certainly interesting and unique and every once in awhile you come across a patch
of blue-white agate. This is a great conversation starting gemstone!

Honestly, I wasn't real impressed with the smaller of these two free-form cabochons, so I'm just throwing it into the
