Fluorite Specimens
The name fluorite comes from the Latin fluere which means "to flow." This name comes from the fact
that fluorite melts easily. Fluorite is the natural crystalline form of calcium fluoride (CaF2). It is a transparent to translucent,
glassy mineral. When pure fluorite is crystal clear, however flourite can show many different colors depending on tiny amounts
of other elements taking the place of the calcium in the molecular structure. Sometimes a single crystal may have bands of
several colors. Fluorite often forms beautiful cube-shaped crystals. The most important fluorite deposits in the United
States are found at Rosiclare and Cave-in-Rock in southern Illinois.

Large cabinet piece from the area around Cave-in-Rock, Il. It has a tunnel running through the specimen with
a whole host of small perfect crystals on the inside of the larger ones. Unfortunately, this piece suffered some damage
before I obtained it, but it's a really nice large piece from this classic location. It's been a good conversation starter
around my place! Approx. size: 162x102x88 Weight: 1407 grams

the USA formed exactly like this. has a slight minty green color that does not come out in the photos very well. Approx.

This is an incredible little specimen from Shingus, Skardu District, Pakistan with great crystal formation
and a pleasing light green color that is actually a lot darker than it appears in the photos. Honestly, the pictures
just don't do this wonderful little piece justice! Approx. size: 34x26x17 Weight: 19.9 gm.

Wow! That's exactly what I said when I first unwrapped this little piece when I received it from Shingus, Skardu
District, Pakistan. It's a light green color, darker than in the photo, near perfectly formed crystal sitting on some
sparkly crystalline albite. The one picture that turned out (I was having a bad photo session.) just doesn't
convey the awesomeness of this piece! Approx. size: 24x24x20 Weight: 13.2 gm.

Oddly shaped green crystal from Shingus, Skardu District, Pakistan resting on a base of albite that is studded with small
schorl tourmaline crystals. This specimen actually sits up real nice on the base with the crystal point going straight
up into the air, but it was the only photo that I took of the piece that didn't turn out. Curse you Murphy! Approx. 30x27x17
Weight: 18 gm.
