Agatized Coral Rough
This rare and valuable type of coral is found only in a small area on the west coast of Florida around Tampa
Bay. It was formed 10 to 25 million years ago when Florida was part of a vast coral reef. As years passed, layers
of silt deposited over the coral burying it completely. Due to the minral content of this sediment, the coral went through
a process of petrification being replaced by agate, sometimes producing beautiful geodes.
