Yooper Jasper Rough
This "jasper" is found near the town of Norway, Mi. in the UP, hence the name of
"Yooper" jasper. This is NOT the jaspilite that is so common to this area, nor is it true jasper. It's a very
compact quartzite that a local geologist has described to me as "jasperoid." It does take a great polish and makes wonderful
cabochons. If you've seen any of the amethyst specimens I have from Michigan, this is the matrix on which those crystals
grow. It very much resembles petrified wood from Arizona's Peterified Forest National Monument, and has most of the
colors that are represented in the wood.

Nice piece that looks like Arizona petrified wood on one side. I included photos of both sides of this piece as
the red and yellow didn't run very deep, but the rest of the stone is still covered in interesting colors and patterns. Approx.
size: 145x88x60 Approx. weight: 3 ½ lbs.

Very pretty piece with nice yellow and red that moves from bright to pale pink. Unfortunately this piece is a bit
thin throughout most of it. Still, there are a lot of beautiful cabs in it, just not any sizable spheres. Approx.
size: 225x120x60 Approx. weight: 3½ lbs.
